Family
Tradition is like a lantern. The foolish cling to it, whilst it lights the way for the wise.
From generation to generation, the baton has been and continues to be passed on within our family, so that everything at our winery – just as in nature – remains in constant flux. For us, tradition means always striving to make things just a little bit better, for that has always been the foundation of our success. This does not mean progress at any cost. But the old should not be preserved for its own sake if the new proves to be better. And ultimately, only experience reveals what is best.
Winegrowing in the Wasem family can be traced back ten generations to the year 1726. At the beginning of the 20th century, great-grandfather Julius Wasem laid the foundations for winegrowing in the Edelgasse. Today, the third and fourth generations run the Wasem family business with great success; Holger Wasem manages the winery together with his sons. Julius and Philipp are qualified winemakers and oenologists and bring their own ideas to the winery. His wife Karin runs the restaurant, whilst his son Gerhard and his team have been managing the events office at Engelthal Abbey since 2017 with great enthusiasm and innovative ideas.

Looking ahead
The handover of the business was the result of long-term planning and preparation. Our sons have been actively involved in the business for years and have gained valuable experience. During this gradual process, they have taken on responsibility and developed their skills, always working and acting together.
We supported them at every stage of the handover process, encouraging them to make decisions and take responsibility. We were always on hand to address any questions or concerns, sharing our knowledge and experience to ensure a smooth transition. At the same time, we gave them the freedom early on to develop their own style and put their ideas into practice.
Of course, you can continue to count on our full support and cooperation in every area – that’s what makes us a family business.
Beyond the wine, there is much more to discover in and around Ingelheim.

Beyond the wine, there is much more to discover in and around Ingelheim.
First and foremost, the stunning natural beauty of the Imperial Palace, best explored via various cycling and walking trails, but also the charming historic buildings of ‘old’ Ingelheim, not to mention the Rhine, which you can explore along its banks or from a boat. And for those who fancy a bit of city life now and then, the spa city of Wiesbaden, with its unique classical architecture, and Mainz, the city of Gutenberg, are both within easy reach. With their countless sights and rich cultural offerings, both cities are popular destinations for a day trip, whether you’re visiting museums, attending concerts or going to the theatre.

As a family-run business, we place great importance on leaving behind a good quality of life for future generations. We are not only committed to social issues, but are also constantly driving forward the environmental transformation of our business.
