Family

Tradition is a lantern. The foolish hold on to it, the clever use it to light the way.

The baton has been passed on from generation to generation so that everything in our winery – like in nature – remains in a state of flux. For us, tradition means always wanting to do things a little better, because that has always been the basis of our success. This does not mean progress at any price. But the old should not be preserved for its own sake if the new proves to be better. And ultimately, only experience shows what is best.

Winegrowing in the Wasem family can be traced back ten generations to the year 1726. Great-grandfather Julius Wasem laid the foundations for viticulture in Edelgasse at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the third and fourth generations are running the Wasem family business with great success, with Holger Wasem managing the winery together with his sons. Julius and Philipp are trained winemakers and oenologists and bring their own ideas to the winery. Their wife Karin manages the catering, while their son Gerhard and his team have been running the events office at Engelthal Monastery since 2017 with plenty of vigour and new innovations.

Looking to the future

The handover of the business was the result of long-term planning and preparation. Our sons have been actively involved in the business for years and have gained valuable experience. During this gradual process, they have taken on responsibility and developed their skills, always working and acting together.

We supported them at every stage during the handover period, encouraging them to make decisions and take responsibility. We were always available to answer questions and concerns and shared our knowledge and experience to ensure a smooth transition process. At the same time, we gave them the freedom to realise their own style and ideas at an early stage.

Of course, you can continue to count on our full support and co-operation in all areas – that’s what makes a family business.

Beyond wine, there is much more to discover in and around Ingelheim.

Ingelheim & Region

Beyond wine, there is much more to discover in and around Ingelheim.

First and foremost, the wonderful nature of the Imperial Palace, which is best explored via various cycling and hiking trails, but also the charming historical buildings of “old” Ingelheim, not forgetting the Rhine, which you can explore along the banks or by boat. And if you fancy a bit of city air in between, the spa town of Wiesbaden with its unique neo-classical architecture and the Gutenberg city of Mainz are in the immediate vicinity. With their countless sights and rich cultural offerings, both cities are popular destinations for a day trip with visits to museums, concerts or the theatre.
